TIPA Me! What in the world is TIPA?

If you haven’t heard of TIPA (Tudor IT Process Assessment) already and you work with IT services, get ready because it’s about to take the ITSM world by storm. It’s getting great reviews and our customers have leveraged the results from our assessments to perform improvement workshops for process and customer experience optimization.

TIPA provides for a great way to understand your organizations maturity in a structured, non-proprietary, open framework. In the past (and currently for people unaware of TIPA), organizations would hire consultants in to perform assessments, but the consultants left them results that were in a proprietary closed format, some without clear recommendations. TIPA provides a standardized framework for organizations to compare process-maturity with other peers in their industry. It’s the product of seven years of research by the Public Research Centre Henri Tudor, a team of international researchers (who also worked on the development and review of both the ISO/IEC 15504 and ISO/IEC 20000 standards), in response to the need for a standardized process assessment methodology in the field of IT Service Management.

I personally have used it for the last 3 assessments I have completed and it’s a time saver where the cost savings can be passed on to the customer. Our customers love it because it is open to the point where they can read the book and do their own internal assessments in between the external assessments that we perform.
